Suspect and stolen property sought by TCSO

On May 1st, 2016, the Titus County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a Burglary of Habitation on the 200 Block of County Road 1835 in Titus County. The complainant reported that he returned to the property to discover numerous offenses, including Burglary of the Residence, Burglary of a Building, and the theft of a Classic Chevy Camaro SS, which had been stored on the property.

Upon receiving the report, Titus County Sheriff’s Office discovered that the several felony offenses, most likely occurred approximately one week earlier. Early in the investigation, 33 year old Adam Lee Miles was identified as a suspect.

Practically everything of value, had been stolen from the residence which had been locked when the complainant was last at the residence, including appliances, furniture, Snap On tools, and a firearm was also discovered missing.

Of significant value, was a near pristine hotrod 1970 model Chevy Camaro. With hopes that locating the Chevy Camaro might best lead to an arrest in the case, investigators quickly turned to the use of Facebook Social Media, posting a photograph of the missing Camaro. Within hours, a couple of leads were received as a direct result of the social media post, one of which proved to have been a good one.

Investigators learned that suspect Adam Lee Miles had arranged to sell the Camaro which remained registered to the complainant, without the title. In Texas it is a violation of the law as an individual, to sell a titled vehicle without the registered owner consenting, AND appropriately signing the title as the seller. This obvious red flag that the vehicle was more than likely stolen was ignored by subsequent buyers, who quickly purchased the vehicle at a fraction of its actual value.

Within hours of the social media post, the TCSO received the important tip concerning the stolen Chevy Camaro. Within one hour of receiving the tip, investigators were able to locate the stolen Camaro in Balch Spring. They then warned all parties of the consequences if the Camaro disappeared before law enforcement officials could inspect, confirm and recover the vehicle.

Agents and investigators from the North Texas Auto Theft Task Force, Paris Police Department, and Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, assisted in the recovery of the stolen Camaro the following day.
In the past, some citizens have questioned TCSO’s use of social media as a tool to assist with some investigations. We feel this is a case in point, of crucial information exponentially reaching a lot of people, to obtain a tip early on. Without the speed in which the tip came in, this classic car would likely have never been recovered.

A felony arrest warrant for Adam Lee Miles for Theft Over $2500.00 and under $30,000.00 has been obtained and the search for the other significant amount of stolen property continues. Now, Titus County Sheriff’s Office is again reaching out to the public through social media in search of a lead on the location of suspect Adam Lee Miles.

Any citizen with information regarding the whereabouts of Adam Miles or the location of stolen property connected to Miles, is asked to contact Titus County Sheriff’s Office at (903) 572-6641, or message TCSO through Facebook.
