PROGRESS !! First seal-coated County Road in over 15 years!
CR 1065 just east of Winfield was seal-coated last week by the County Road Crew led by County Road Engineer, Roger Ledbetter. It was a successful test of the updated equipment and training of the road hands. CR 1065 runs from the north frontage road of I-30 to Hwy 67, only 1/2 a mile but includes two railroad crossings.
Seal-coating involves covering the prepared road surface with hot asphalt and spreading crushed rock over it. Considerable coordination is needed to bring in multiple trucks of crushed rock to keep the process going.
Titus County used to seal-coat its roads but stopped doing so about 15 years ago after key equipment broke and the Commissioners failed to agree on repairing it. The lack of seal-coating is the primary reason why our roads are so bad and will take many years to get back into good condition.
