MPHS Debaters Qualify for State

The Mount Pleasant High School Debate Team competed in the Regional Debate competition at the Region 8 ESC on Thursday, November 2nd. Competing against all 5A schools in our region, Mount Pleasant had a great showing. The team took 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th places in the competition.

Senior Dani Bernal was the regional champion taking 1st and advancing to State. Bernal is a two-time State qualifier. Senior Anthony Preciado placed 3rd and also advanced to state.

Junior Maritza Zambrano finished 4th and is the Alternate to State.

Sophomore Caroline Rose finished 5th and is the 2nd Alternate to State.

Freshman Isabella Greco finished 7th and was one place away from earning a medal.

“I couldn’t be more proud of my Congress team,” said Debate team Coach Cody Morris. “They worked very hard in preparation for this tournament and it paid off. We will travel to Austin to compete on January 9th.”
