Murder in Mount Pleasant
On Sunday August 20 at 12:24 am, the Mount Pleasant Police responded to reports of gun fire in the 1100 and 1300 Blocks of Booker Ln. Shortly after the initial call, another caller reported a person had been shot.
Officers responded to both locations finding numerous people mulling around in the neighborhood. Each location was having outside parties with large gatherings. Officers received reports of two possible locations where gunfire occurred but were directed by callers to the 1100 Block of Booker Ln., reporting a woman had been shot.
The victim was identified as 38-year-old Tammy Denise Jordon of Mount Pleasant. She died at the scene. Acting Justice of the Peace Terri Aydelott ordered an autopsy through the Dallas Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences.
A family member was with Tammy at the time she passed, said Police Chief Wayne Isbell. Tammy Jordon was known by many in our community. Tammy was employed as an emergency room clerk with Titus County Regional Medical Center. Detectives believe Tammy was an innocent victim and was not involved in the dispute between the two suspects.
Mt. Olive Baptist Church Senior Pastor Kirthell Roberts and Mount Pleasant Police Victim Services Coordinator Melissa Horton responded and assisted grieving relatives and friends.
After interviewing numerous people at both scenes, detectives determined the gunfire was related to a disturbance between two subjects from each of the two parties on Booker Ln.
The homicide investigation is ongoing. Several persons of interest are being questioned or being sought for questioning.
This is Mount Pleasant’s first homicide since June 2011.
