Endorsement: Esther Holliday for District Clerk
Voters in Titus County Tuesday will conclude the run-off election to decide who will be the Republican nominee for District Clerk.
We feel Esther Holliday is the better qualified candidate and deserves your vote.
She finished second in the March primary, but with your help she will come out on top and bring the kind of experience and professional background the crucial court-related position requires.
Her opponent has excellent law enforcement experience, but would make a better constable or sheriff than district clerk. As in the case of the Precinct 1,3 and 4 Justice of the Peace race, where Steve Agan beat Woody Hughes, we're puzzled why retired law enforcement personnel seek a court position. The jobs are not that much alike, and it's probably better these posts not go to people from the other side of the prosecutorial process, to lend some objectivity and distance.
Holliday has the more pertinent experience, including currently being the senior legal assistant in the county attorney's office. She can move seamlessly into the district clerks' job on Jan. 1.
Please check the list above, because the polling locations have been consolidated for this election.
