Telephone scam alert

This week, the Titus County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous complaints regarding a phone scam. Recent reports indicate that citizens have received calls in which the callers have told them that they were representing the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) demanding payment for delinquent taxes and/or penalties.

It has further been reported that the citizens receiving the calls, have been told that the caller was at either the Sheriff’s Office or the Police Department and were in the act of obtaining a warrant. Local courts and agencies do not issue warrants for the Internal Revenue Service.

Titus County Sheriff’s Office would like to inform the public to not converse with suspicious callers of any kind. Citizens should be absolutely aware, that they should not give out any personal information to any suspicious caller. When the Internal Revenue Service seeks to make legitimate contact, they will do so by mail.
