The Mount Pleasant City Council Tuesday night formally two ordinances approved dropping the speed limits on Business Hwy. 271, the U.S. Hwy 271 service roads, and Hwy. 49.
City Manager Ed Thatcher explained the changes were made by TxDOT because they are state highways.
He added that apparently this is the first time TxDOT has changed speed limits inside the City of Mount Pleasant.
"This information was sent to us by TxDOT," he said.
Council member Tim Dale noted that as in the past "We really don't have input in this."
The changes essentially drop the speed limit five mph through the city./
Mayor Tracy Craig asked how long will the public have to adjust to the changes. Thatcher said the changes won't take place until TxDOT puts up new signs.
