Everybody's Furniture plans to close
After nearly 80 years, Everybody’s Furniture in Mt. Pleasant will be closing its doors forever in the coming weeks.
Beginning Thursday, October 10th and continuing through Tuesday, October 15th, the store will be closed to prepare for its Going Out of Business Sale which begins at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16th.
Everybody’s Furniture was founded in 1940 by E. S. (Scruggs) Miller and Walter and Vera Miller, the grandfather, father and mother of the present owner, Weldon Miller.
The first location of Everybody’s Furniture was at 106 East Third Street. Later the business moved to 204 West 2nd Street in the downtown area and then in 1964 to its present location, which at the time was the largest “clear span” building in Mt. Pleasant.
After receiving his degree in Marketing from Abilene Christian College, Weldon joined the firm in 1957, subsequently becoming a partner and later owner of the company. At one time or another, his wife, Jo Ann, and all their children have worked in the business.
Following an unfortunate accident of a vehicle running into their building, a complete remodeling was completed in 2017. With the patriotic mural painted on the north wall by David Freeman, the location has become a landmark
Due to on-going health issues as well as the economic challenges of continuing to operate the Company, a realistic decision was made to close the doors of the store and join others in retirement.
The Millers are grateful for all their employees through the years who have given their support to the Company’s success and ability to give back to the community. Likewise, they are deeply appreciative of the many customers they have had the privilege of serving during the lifetime of the Company. From the bottom of their hearts, they say, “Thank you Mt. Pleasant and the surrounding area for your support through the years.”
In addition to all of their inventory being for sale, all of their furniture, fixtures, equipment, vehicles and real estate will be for sale once the “Going Out of Business Sale” is complete.
