Monday, May 13, Mount Pleasant Police responded to a burglary in progress in the 300 Block of W. 8th St. A witness reported seeing a Hispanic male forcibly enter into a residence. The witness had never seen the person before and knew the homeowner was at work.
Officers arrived minutes after the 911 call and surrounded the residence. Using a P.A. system, officers attempted to communicate with the suspect to get him to exit and surrender. Officers at the rear of the residence could hear the suspect attempting to exit the house by breaking through a back exterior wall in an attempt to escape.
On duty SWAT officers arrived on scene and made entry into the residence and found the suspect breaking through an exterior wall from inside a cabinet. The suspect refused to comply with verbal commands so an electronic control device, “TASER”, was deployed. After deployment, the suspect gave up and was taken into custody, uninjured.
The burglary suspect is identified as 24-year-old Oscar Banda of Mount Pleasant. Banda was booked into the Titus County Jail for Burglary of a Habitation and Resisting Arrest. His booking arrest can be found on the Titus County Jail web page at www.tcsoinfo.com/
