Late Thursday at 8:30 p.m. the Mount Pleasant Police Department was contacted about a vehicle and boat trailer backed into a boat ramp unoccupied. A witness reported no one was around the vehicle and no boat was seen in the area.
Officers responded to Boat Ramp Park and found the vehicle with an empty trailer. After determining who the owner of the vehicle was, family members were contacted. The family reported the owner of the vehicle was supposed to be fishing on Lake Tankersley but should have returned by now.
Mount Pleasant Fire Department Water Rescue responded and began searching the lake for the missing boat and boater. A boat was located on the far side of the dam diagonal to the boat launch. The boat was unoccupied.
Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens responded to the lake. Utilizing side sonar, Game Wardens were able to locate a drowning victim shortly before midnight.
The victim is identified as 74-year-old James Paul Majors of Mount Pleasant.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden Division is the primary investigating agency for the drowning. Game Wardens believe this to be an accidental drowning.
Family members of the victim have been notified.
