Assistance available to help families with child care

Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas provides financial assistance to eligible low-to moderate-income families, helping parents offset the cost of their child’s care.

Parents who are working, in training, enrolled in education or who are participating in a workforce program may be eligible.

More than 1,500 families across Northeast Texas receive assistance through the program. Working families in Bowie, Cass, Delta, Lamar, Hopkins, Franklin, Morris, Red River and Titus Counties may be eligible for assistance, which varies based upon the family’s income and the parents’ work schedule and/or schooling.

To be eligible, families must fall within the income guidelines and be working, in school, or in training a minimum of 25 hours per week for a one-parent family or 50 hours per week for a two-parent family.

The program offers parents the freedom to choose the provider that best meets their needs. Parents may select any licensed or registered child care provider or a qualified relative to provide care. Workforce Solutions maintains a list of area providers who participate in the program and meet Texas licensing requirements. The cost for the parent varies based on their gross monthly income and number in household.

In the past, parents have had to be placed on a waiting list to be considered for assistance. Currently, there is no waiting list, meaning the assistance can begin as soon as the family has been approved for care.
