Keep the Unit Road System for Titus County

By WADE MILLER

Being a tax payer for 35 years, I Have been on most all roads of all precincts. I've driven more than most citizens per being part of a family business. I've seen all types of road conditions dating back to 1968 when I started riding along. I have known personally most of the commissioners over the years and as a whole, they are outstanding men. That doesn't mean I agree with them on every point or think they have communicated clearly with the public on every issue.
I understand how folks feel about pot holes and bad road conditions.

I do not honestly believe. That we have given sufficient time for " The Unit Road System " to work. The key word is time. Once the citizens of Titus Co. decided to try the unit road system it took:
*Time to find an engineer
*Time for the engineer to take an inventory of equipment, and decide what was needed.
*Time to purchase new equipment or replace/repair worn equipment.
*Time to size up the knowledge base of the current staff.
*Time to train staff on new equipment and or retraining in areas lacking.
*Time for paperwork and permits.
*Time to analyze road surfacing needs and prioritize those needs.
*Time to wait for dry weather for any type of repairs or road building. ( Weather is a huge factor)
The above are just some examples .

A good comparison would be the loops put in around Mt.Pleasant. Again if we, the public looked, at the amount of time for each section, do you remember how long ? Do you remember delays ? Do you remember 2 costly mistakes ? Are you aware of the dangerous intersection on the loop ? Temporary fixes were made. But countless wrecks and close calls continue to this day.

Another comparison would be retail business decisions. When a business makes a decision to purchase a product for resale. They have a time frame in mind. If the product doesn't perform as expected in a reasonable time. Then you discount . A business must give reasonable time and effort to gain success.
A business does not plan for failure. But if a bad choice was made. Make the correction an go forward .

My opinion is that sufficient time has not been given to the Unit Road System . I hope each citizen of Titus, Co. will give this some thought.

I hope you will vote to give more time.

Vote against Proposition A on November 6

And place your vote early.
