Titus County Commissioners Monday morning approved the establishment of a volunteer fire department (VFD) for the Argo community.
County Judge Brian Lee noted the request was discussed extensively at the previous commissioners meeting two weeks ago.
Argo already has its own community fire station as part of the Cookville VFD.
Commissioner Mike Fields said he fully supports the idea.
"It will help the community, as well as help with people's insurance," he said.
Lee noted the Argo VFD will follow the same policies as the other Titus County VFDs.
He added that the new Argo VFD will get the same amount of funding in the upcoming county budget as the other VFDs receive. The new budget will take effect Oct. 1.
In the meanwhile, said Lee, "they will be working to get things set up."
The proposal passed unanimously.
In conclusion, Lee thanked Mile Logan for leading the effort to set up the new fire department.
