A message from Tri Lakes VFD Chief Jerry Ward
On 8/13/18 we were asked to close the Winfield fire department. It has been 4 years since we reopened the station. At that time our intentions were to get volunteers to join and operate out of that station. But we have been unsuccessful. Chief McRae with Mount Pleasant Fire Department suggested that we close the department down and Mount Pleasant would cover that area. This would save wear and tear and fuel on our trucks and responding from the Blodgett station. And also our time to respond to Winfield is longer than Mount Pleasant, their station is by the interstate. We feel that the Tri Lakes VFD has done everything we could to keep it open. The volunteers are just not there. Winfield’s ISO rating will go from a 4/10 back to a 9/10. The final decision was made by the Commissioners court on 8/13/18.
