Titus Commissioners have designated March 24-31 at
the county’s annual Spring Clean Up Week. Roll-off dumpsters will be at eight
locations where residents can dispose of oversize trash during that period.
The decision was made at Monday’s court meeting. Commissioner
Dana Applewhite said signs need to be posted indicating that tires cannot be
dumped. County employees have to pull any dumped out by hand, he noted, “we always
seem to have an over abundance of tires.”
Other unacceptable items include tires, batteries,
paint, and used motor oil.
The dumpsters will be located at:
Precinct 1: Hwy. 271 and Business 271 N.
Precinct 1: County Road 1670 in the Piney Community
Precinct 2: Tri-Lakes Volunteer Fire Department in
Blodgett
Precinct 2: Precinct 2 Barn
Precinct 2: Winfield
Precinct 3: Old Precinct 3 Barn
Precinct 3: Sugar Hill Community Center
Precinct 4: Corner of FM 1000 and Hwy. 49
Precinct 4: Cookville walking track
Old air conditioners and refrigerators with freon can
be left next to the dumpster, not inside it, at the Precinct 2 Barn.
Commissioner Mike Fields said the City of Mount
Pleasant usually holds its Clean Up Week at the same time as the county,
although in that case “they just open the dump| to the public..
Commissioner Jimmy Parker noted there are two
dumpsters at each location, and they need to be replaced frequently. Otherwise
if people arrive and the dumpsters are full, he said, “they just dump it on the
side of the road.|
