The Arkansas-Texas Council of Governments (ATCOG) and Lowes are cooperating on establishing a commuter bus service between Mount Pleasant and the distribution center in Franklin County.

ATCOG Executive Director Chris Brown reported to the board of directors Thursday morning that Lowes is supporting the new route, which would cost $55,000 a year “and will be completely privately funded.”

The ATCOG board met at the Franklin County Law Enforcement Center in Mount Vernon.

Brown said “there’s been a lot of interest” in the commuter bus route, which will run four days a week twice a day between Mount Pleasant and the Lowes regional distribution center.

The first route will start at 4:30 a.m. Fares will five dollars a day and Lowes will sell the tickets.

Brown said the agreement for establishing the new route is being vetted by attorneys.
