Unlike electrical outages, gas cannot just be flipped back on. Once the
leak is fixed (late morning today) the gas company will have to turn
off the meters at EVERY SINGLE CUSTOMER BOTH RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL.
Before your meter can be turned back on, a Centerpoint employee MUST inspect your home or business to be sure it is safe to restore the gas. To do that, they will have to go inside. There are about 5,000 customers affected here.
Best estimate for full restoration is 72 HOURS to reach all customers.
If you are not there when Centerpoint arrives, you will be passed by and your gas will not be turned back on. This is a strict safety precaution to insure no dangerous gas is flowing into the house
