MPHS Goin’ Gold Band Advances to Area Contest

Standing: Drum Majors: Addison Hunter, Steven Mendoza, Allen Ruan. Kneeling: Color Guard Captain Peyton McClendon with Sweepstakes Trophy
The Mount Pleasant High School Goin’ Gold Band has advanced to the Area Competition after receiving all 1’s (the highest score possible) at the UIL Region 4 Marching Contest October 17 at Sam Parker Field. The Area competition will be held in Mesquite Saturday, October 28.

The trip to Area caps an already successful marching season for the band and colorguard. They received the Sweepstakes award (receiving all 1’s) at the Four-States Marching Invitational Contest in Texarkana on October 13. The contest featured 22 high school marching bands from four states: Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas.

The Band also competed at the Prairieland Marching Contest last Saturday where they advanced to the final 5 bands, placing 2nd overall. The MPHS Drum Majors were named Best Drum Majors at the contest.

“This year’s show is great,” said MPISD Director of Communication Dr. Judith Saxton. “If you haven’t had the chance to see it, be sure to come out to Sam Parker Field for the MPHS Tigers – Sulphur Springs Football Game this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. It’s the last time they will perform before a home audience before going to Area Competition.”
