Where is Justice for Tammy Jordon?

By Mount Pleasant Police Chief Wayne Isbell

“You know you saw something. Tell them what you saw.” These are the words that resonate within my head this morning as Mount Pleasant Police investigate the senseless murder of Tammy Jordon. Tammy was killed when a bullet struck her while she was in the street in front of 1115 Booker Ave.

Tammy was at an outside DJ party at this residence while another party, just a block away, was going on at 1302 Booker Ave. Both locations had crowds, people were drinking, many were intoxicated and music was playing. It was reported that people were walking back and forth on Booker Ave. attending both parties.

The shooting call was reported to 9-1-1 at 12:24 am by a person who lives in the neighborhood. The caller reported hearing gun shots in the area near where the two parties were occurring. The police department 9-1-1 center received several more calls shortly after the initial gun fire report. Those calls focused on a woman being shot in front of 1115 Booker Ave.

When officers arrived they found Tammy laying in the street being assisted by relatives and friends. Tammy stopped breathing while officers were there. One officer began CPR until EMS arrived. Tammy’s husband watched his beloved wife pass. Officers were faced with many upset persons at the scene. Alcohol played a role in many people acting inappropriately while officers tried to control both scenes. Numerous others in the area tried to control those being unruly at both locations.

I’m not going into any further details about the scene or the ongoing criminal investigation related to Tammy’s death. I hate that I even have to speak about this senseless death. What I want to address publicly is the lack of cooperation of witnesses who saw the shooting. It is clear to me and investigators that the shooting was witnessed by many people. The level of cooperation has been minimal.

Tammy was a loving mother and family person. She was respected at her place of employment and worked with many in the community. Our community is outraged by Tammy’s death, that is clear from what I saw this morning. What is lacking though is outrage by the lack of cooperation from those who witnessed the shooter firing indiscriminately. Not speaking up is protecting a murderer. “You know you saw something. Tell them what you saw,” are the words that resonate in my head from a man frantically yelling at the crowd of people asking anyone to step up and say they saw the shooter.

The police department needs your help to give Tammy and Tammy’s family the justice they deserve. Tammy was not part of anyone’s dispute. She was not part of a battle that apparently raged in someone’s head to indiscriminately start shooting toward people. Tammy is a victim. Tammy’s family is a victim.

People need to step up and say enough-is-enough. Violence will not be tolerated. Come forward, be heard and tell us what you saw. Be part of the answer and not part of the problem. Both Tammy’s family and the police department need your help in solving this murder. If you witnessed this crime call and speak to our Criminal Investigations Division at 903-575-4191 or call the police department at 903-575-4004. No anonymous tips. Do what is right and be part of the solution.

Please share. Maybe my public plea will help.
