Girl scouts study local government
City Council members Brian Heavner and Michael McGahee recently helped members of Girl Scout Troop 307 earn their local government merit badge. They gathered at City Hall where they met with City Manager Mike Ahrens and City Secretary Darleen Denman.
They talked about the structure of the city's departments, and how the citizens of Mt. Pleasant sit at the top of our organization chart.
Police Chief Wayne Isbell also took time out of his day to show the girls around the Police Station. The girls were well prepared; they listened and they had terrific questions that made it quite clear that they were ready for our afternoon.
Later, they were guests at the regular meeting of the City Council. Mayor Paul Meriwether declared Tuesday, May 2, 2017 as Girl Scout Troop 307 Day in Mt. Pleasant. The girls led those attending the meeting in the pledge of allegiance.
Councilman Heavner was honored to present Gabby, Camilla and Kaylee with their merit badges.
The girls were led by Scout Leader Kristy Jackson.
