Mount Pleasant High School Art students attended the Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) at Pleasant Grove High School on February 25. Fourteen of the works entered received a score of at least 51 and medaled at the event while five earned a perfect score of 60.

Earning a perfect score were Juan Castanon for his work “What's In The News?”, Cessia Gonzalez for her work “Future Hope”, Samuel Gonzalez for his work “Decisive Hand”, Ita-ii Luna for her work “Break Through”, and Kyron Saunders for his work “Spotted Rose”. This is the 2nd year that Juan Castanon and Cessia Gonzalez have earned medals at the VASE competition.

In addition to the five who earned perfect scores, and Saunders who entered a second piece and earned a second medal, eight other students medaled at the event. These include Andrea Becerra (for the 3rd year in a row), Stacy Brown, Armando Galvan (for the 2nd year), Nick Jackson, Edith Landaverde (for the 2nd year), Daniel Landaverde, Jonathan Organista and Kachina Swafford.

“I am so proud of all these students”, said MPHS Art teacher Laura Kirkland. “They all worked extremely hard on these works to prepare for VASE. To have so many medal is a real indication of the quality of their work and their dedication to do their best.”
