Eagle Scout project rehabs CASA playground
When Jared McNutt visited with CASA of Titus, Camp and Morris Counties Executive Director Michelle Cobern, he expressed a willingness to help with a project that would benefit the children CASA serves.
McNutt is an Eagle Scout with Troop # 271 and wanted to do a service project that would be a service to others, which is an important part of the Scout Oath: "to help other people at all times".
Jared and other Scout members carried out their service project by cleaning up the playground and playground equipment children use for visits with their parents.
Each year tens of thousands of young men strive to achieve the coveted Eagle Scout rank by applying character, citizenship and Scout values in their daily lives. Jared left a lasting impression on executive director Cobern.
"Jared was very professional, caring and concerned about the mission of our program and how the Eagle Scouts could help," said Cobern.
Jared met with Cobern several times and even presented an agreement for the project.
"Jared is an amazing young man and so are the other young men I had the privilege of meeting during this Eagle Scout project," said Cobern. "The Eagle Scouts showed up on time and did exactly as their project stated they would. The Eagle Scouts scrubbed the playground equipment in the rainy cold weather, raked leaves and cleaned the entire playground with out one complaint. Enya, the CASA service dog, played with the guys for a brief moment then the Scouts were back to work."
"It is nice to see incredible group of young men making a difference in the lives of children," she continued. "Although CASA was the recipient of the work the Eagle Scouts did, the true gift will be watching the children enjoy playing on a clean playground with their parents during visits."
