Wallace competes in UIL

The P.E. Wallace Academic UIL Team
P.E. Wallace Middle School 6th graders competed at the District 16-5A Middle School UIL meet in Hallsville last week. Wallace students came home with one 1st place team, three 2nd place teams, one 3rd place team, one 4th place team and assorted ribbons for individual students.

For the 11th year in a row the 6th Grade Music Memory Team walked away with 1st place. This year’s team includes Marcela Mata, Humberto Ramirez, Kaitlyn Reese and Javier Vazquez. They are coached by music teacher Sheri Sullivan. Ramirez placed 1st, Vazquez placed 5th and Reese placed 7th.

The Chess Problem Solving, Dictionary Skills and Maps, Graphs and Charts Teams each earned 2nd place spots. Ky Gill, Yalit Mata and Jeremiah Segovia make up the Chess Problem Solving team. Gill placed 3rd and Mata tied for 5th.

The Dictionary Skills team is made up of Merlin Cordona, Alexandra Estrada and Katherine Phelan. Cordona placed 5th.

The Maps, Graphs and Charts Team included Ava Bliss, Joshua Lilly and Eli Rider. Bliss placed 3rd and Rider placed 5th.

The Social Studies team made up of Ava Bliss, Rachel Cato and Eli Rider placed 3rd at the meet while the Art Team of Ethan Easley, Ruby Vega and Jordyn Warren placed 4th. For Social Studies, Bliss placed 4th.

Prose Oral Reading: Wendy Carillo, Tabatha Marshall, Nathan Martinez
Ready Writing: Vanessa Banda (5th place), Merlin Cordona, Alexandra Estrada
Science: Ethan Easley, Elvin Jones, Iyanna Williams
Spelling: Samantha McClenan, Ashton Simon, Mallory Stokley

Alternates also attended the meet. They were prepared to compete if needed: Camilla Serrano (Art), Madeline Plascencia (Dictionary Skills), Rachel Cato (Maps, Graphs and Charts), Cesar Flores (Mathematics) and Perla Guzman (Ready Writing).
