Poverty and Diversity Day
Thursday's Leadership Mount Pleasant Poverty and Diversity Day was nothing short of amazing.
The day started with a dynamic discussion on diversity and inclusion, facilitated by two professors from the University of Central Arkansas, Charlotte Strickland and Wendy Holbrook.
Next, the group, with the help of volunteers from the entire community, experienced a poverty simulation sponsored by North East Texas Credit Union. Participants were given a glimpse of life at or below the poverty level.
The day ended with a debrief with a panel of social services experts from our local agencies, including Titus County Cares, Safe-T Shelter, Hope Ministries of Northeast Texas, Ark-Tex Council of Governments, CASA of Titus, Camp and Morris Counties, Mount Pleasant Boys & Girls Club and Salvation Army.
They were able to identify solutions and gaps that exist in our community and are reunited in our efforts to help everyone who calls Mount Pleasant home.
Thank so presenting sponsor: Luminant Power
