MPHS UIL Academic Team Takes First AGAIN!


The Mount Pleasant High School UIL Academic Team did it again. They beat out 39 other schools to take first place in the recent MPHS-hosted UIL Academic Meet.

The MPHS Current Events Team was the first-place team. Spelling and Journalism each took second place overall. Eighteen students brought home medals. Two students earned medals in three events and three students earned two medals each.

“These students continue to work hard on their events,” said MPHS UIL Director Regina Crouch. “They could have taken it easy after their big win at North Lamar, but they didn’t. I am so proud of them for their continued commitment.”

Individuals medals were won by:

Current Events (1st Place Team)
Jacob Baker 1st place, Audrey Corregeous 2nd place, Enrique Martinez 3rd place, Nathon Segovia 5th place.

Journalism (2nd Place Team)
News Writing: Allie Norfleet 1st place, Rosie Gonzalez 5th place
Editorial Writing: Eryn Armstrong 3rd place
Feature Writing: Eric Vasquez 4th place
Headlines: Eryn Armstrong 1st place, Raegan Davis 2nd place, Connor Reese 5th place, Allie Norfleet 6th place
Copy Editing: Allie Norfleet 3rd place

Math:
9th Grade: Shelby Courreges 1st place
10th Grade: Jose Liera 1st place

11th Grade: Nathon Segovia 2nd place, Orlando Olivares 4th place
12th Grade: Daniel Hernandez 1st place, Husban Shahid 2nd place, Carlos Barboza 4th place
Overall: Jose Liera 1st place, Daniel Hernandez 2nd place, Husban Shahid 3rd place, Nathon Segovia 6th place

Number Sense:
12th Grade: Daniel Hernandez 6th place

Science:
10th Grade: Jose Liera 3rd place
11th Grade: Nathon Segovia 1st place
Overall: Nathon Segovia 1st place and Top Physics

Spelling (2nd Place Team)
Annie Le 4th place, Rocio Hernandez 5th place
