Shoplifting Turns Into Robbery

On Monday Dec. 12th at approximately 5 p.m. Mount Pleasant police officers responded to a reported robbery at Variedades Castro, located 113 E. 2nd St. The store owner reported she saw a customer taking items without paying for them.

The owner confronted the suspect to get the property back. During the encounter the suspect assaulted the owner and pulled a knife on her. The victim backed away from the suspect and the suspect fled on foot from the store.

Approximately 40 minutes later officers located a person matching the suspect description walking near the Super One Grocery at 602 S. Jefferson. That subject was later identified as 23-year-old Misty Michelle Basey of Mount Pleasant.

Evidence and statements made by the suspect resulted in Basey being arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery, a first-degree felony and other unrelated charges.

Basey was transported and booked into Titus County Jail. Bail is pending arraignment.

The victim did not need medical attention for her injuries.
