OUR OPINION: Time for some reform
The mainstream media was thoroughly discredited in this past Presidential election. All pretense or appearance of objectivity was cast aside as the public was subjected to a non-stop smear campaign against Donald Trump.
The media monopoly overplayed its hand. The bias and prejudice was so blatant, obvious and over-the-top that people simply stopped paying attention. They also recognized the political polls were also being used to manipulate public opinion, and they either stopped responding to them, or flat out lied to them.
The result was that none of the so-called "experts" saw the Trumpslide coming.
America's media is no longer in the news business, it's an entertainment and/or propaganda racket. As such, it needs to be better regulated. It does not deserve the Free Speech protections afforded private citizens. These conglomerates need to be broken up, investigated, and otherwise impaired in their ability to lie to the American people and attempt to rig democratic elections.
Most mainstream media outlets in the U.S. need to be investigated for their ties to the Democratic Party, and made to register as liberal Political Action Committees.
Our legislators need to take up this cause and start the wheels turning on some serious efforts to reform the corrupt media monopolies in the U.S. Sure, they will be attacked, but the media is already proven it is ridiculously biased, what difference can it make?
The American people, on the other hand, will be grateful to legislators who hold corrupt media monopolies accountable.
