So why aren’t people listening to this message?
The Mount Pleasant Police Department says we typically see an increase in home and car burglaries during the holidays because people don’t do this.
Home
- Tell a trusted neighbor when you will be leaving and returning from a trip
- Leave some lights on to give the appearance someone is home or use a light timer
- Double-check all doors and windows to ensure they are locked
- Do not hide keys in a mailbox, under a doormat or planter or anywhere outside
- Don’t advertise your plans to strangers on Facebook or other social media apps
Vehicle
- Lock your doors. Suspects rarely bust a window. Lock your doors
- When at home don’t leave items in your vehicle
- When shopping place items in the trunk. Cover items if in the vehicle so no one can see what you just bought
- Look for people who may be watching you and report their activity to 911
Crimes increase during the holidays because some people don’t follow these simple tips. Don’t be a victim. Remember if you SEE SOMETHING – SAY SOMETHING.
