Felony Arrest of Suspect in Stolen Vehicle – License Plate Reader Technology Alerted Officer

On Monday Oct. 31st at 3 p.m. Mount Pleasant Police Officer Cody Odem was on S. Jefferson when his patrol unit License Plate Reader (LPR) alerted him of a stolen vehicle.

The LPR technology installed on the patrol unit reads license plates as the patrol unit passes vehicles. License plates are then matched against city, state, and national databases for stolen vehicles and wanted persons associated with a vehicle.

The technology in the patrol unit alerts the officer when a match occurs. The officer then confirms the wanted information with dispatch.

On this case, the LPR captured the license plate of a 2015 Acura that was reported stolen out of Dallas.

A felony traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle in the Walmart parking lot on S. Jefferson. The driver, 27-year-old Jeremie Sample of Dallas was taken into custody. Sample reported he was lost and had no reason to be in Mount Pleasant.

Sample was arrested and booked into the Titus County Jail for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Dangerous Drug, No Drivers License, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

As of Tuesday morning Sample's bail had not been set.
