Titus County Voters back Riddle, Applewhite

Titus County voters Tuesday concluded the 2016 Republican primary, giving Al Riddle and Dana Applewhite the commissioner nominations for precincts one and three.

Precinct 1 Commissioner Riddle, who was first elected in 2012 when he ousted Democrat Don Boggs, led in the March 1st primary and sealed the deal Tuesday handily beating Mack Love, 371 to 281 (57 to 43 percent).

In the race for the precinct three spot, open because of the retirement of Democrat Phillip Hinton, Applewhite won by a similar margin, with 249 votes to Gary Murray's 195 (56 to 44 percent).

Riddle and Applewhite are assured of election; there is no Democrat on the fall ballot for either race.

Riddle was the first Republican ever elected  a commissioner in 2012 (Brian Lee was the first Republican ever on the court - at least since Reconstruction - when he defeated incumbent County Judge Sam Russell.)

Applewhite will be the first Republican in the precinct three position.

With Jimmy Parker as the precinct four commissioner, Tuesday's vote leaves Precinct Two Commissioner Mike Fields as the only Democrat left on the court.
