Voters oust two incumbents


Mount Pleasant voters went to the polls Saturday to conclude this year's annual municipal election.

Two out of the three incumbent council members lost. Michael McGahee beat incumbent David Huffman. Brian Heavner beat incumbent Sue Hawkins. Incumbent Tim Dale just got by without a recount with 53 percent of the vote.

The complete but unofficial totals are as follows:

Mount Pleasant City Council, Place 3:
*Michael McGahee - 626 (63%)
David Huffman (I) - 223 (22.4%)
Jack Anderson - 82(8%)
Rick Rajotte - 64 (6.4%)

Mount Pleasant City Council, Place 4:
*Tim Dale (I) - 530 (53.6%)
Steve Corbell - 231 (23.3%)
Kellye Cooper - 227 (22.9%)

Mount Pleasant City Council, Place 5:
*Brian Heavner - 501 (51.7%)
Sue Hawkins (I) 467 - 48.2%)

There were also elections for the Titus County hospital and fresh water supply district. In both cases, there were two seats up for a vote and only one incumbent, resulting in two new members. Dianne Owens won the water supply district seat, and Trent Abbott won the hospital board seat.

Titus County Hospital District, At Large (two seats)
*Trent Abbott - 813 (40%)
*Rick Strudthoff (I) 688 (33.8%)
Alan McMillin - 531 (26%)

Titus County Fresh Water Supply District (two seats)
*Johnny Thomas (I) - 570 (27%)
*Dianne Owens - 480 (22.6%)
Glendel Lange - 349 (16.4%)
Ken Wilson - 297 (14%)
Kent Basinger - 255 (12%)
Ken Colbey - 168 (8%)
