George Carter Dunlap

George Carter Dunlap
George Carter Dunlap was born on September 23, 1936 to General John Bettes Dunlap and his wife John Bullard (yes, two Johns), and died on April 29, 2016.

George graduated from Highland Park High School and SMU, receiving both undergraduate and law degrees. He was a star track athlete both at Highland Park and SMU. He became a nationally recognized labor and employment lawyer and practiced law with several Dallas law firms before retiring from Jackson Walker in 2002. The highlights of his legal career were the two times he argued cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.

He was an active member of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, the Church of the Incarnation, the Dallas Athletic Club, the SMU Alumni Association and the SMU Letterman’s Association. He spent his retirement years in East Texas enjoying golf, with both his Dallas and Mt. Pleasant groups, fishing and his grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Kennedy Dunlap, his son and daughter in law George and Michelle Dunlap, his daughter and son in law Laurie and Scott Redfearn, his grandchildren, Brittany Hunt (and her husband Marshall), Carter Dunlap (and his wife Audrey), Kiley Dunlap, Cassie Yancey (and her husband Jey), Janie Redfearn and Kennedy Redfearn, and by his great grandchildren Thomas Hunt, Hudson Hunt, and Lilly Jane Yancey.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 6th, at 3:00 p.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 3966 McKinney Avenue in Dallas. Honorary pallbearers will be George Reynolds, David Voekel, Bill Goff, Jack Williamson, John Williams, Syd Carter, John Dunlap, III and Bill Moye.

If you are inclined to send a memorial, he would be honored for it to go to either the Titus County Shelter Friends, P.O. Box 1772, Mt. Pleasant, Texas 75456, or the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, 106 E. 10th Street, Dallas, Texas 75203-2296.

Dad/Dada, we are all very proud of everything you accomplished in life. The bravery you showed in battling your illness to the end will be an everlasting inspiration to us all. Rest easy and we look forward to seeing you again someday.
