Band students gets $148K in scholarships


This week, five Mount Pleasant High School Goin’ Gold Band members signed scholarship letters to attend the University of Arkansas at Monticello Music Program. The scholarship total for the five? $148,000.

Signing scholarship letters were Fabian Fernandez-trombone, Juan Garcia-piano, Alicengrace Gray-trumpet (shown), Anthony Martinez-clarinet and color guard, and Javier Martinez-baritone. Professor Lester Pack, UofA Director of Bands, and Professor Gary Meggs, Jazz Band Director, made the trip form Monticello to be present at the scholarship signings.

“I am so proud of these students and what they have accomplished here at MPHS,” said MPHS Band Director Dr. Theodus Luckett. “They have all contributed to the success of the Goin’ Gold Band and we will miss them. I congratulate them on earning scholarships to the University of Arkansas-Monticello. I know they will all be successful in their college careers.”
