Operator of Stolen Motorcycle Crashes and Evades Arrest
On Sunday, April 3, at approximately 1 a.m. a motorcyclist was clocked on radar speeding at 78 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. The officer attempted to stop the violator but the driver intentionally fled from the officer.
The officer did not give chase but found that the motorcyclist lost control of the bike and crashed at N. Jefferson and 12th St. The suspect ran off on foot before the officer arrived at the crash site.
A search of the area was conducted by Mount Pleasant Police, Department of Public Safety and Titus County Sheriff’s Deputies. A Mount Pleasant Officer found the suspect hiding behind a building nearby and the suspect began to run on foot. The suspect was apprehended but did resist arrest.
The suspect, 23-year old,Sawyer Zane Lacaze from Gilmer, was taken into custody. He was treated for injuries sustained from the crash at Titus Regional Medical Center, then booked into the Titus County Jail.
Mount Pleasant Police Detectives were able to track down the owner of the motorcycle who did not know his bike had been stolen. The motorcycle was stolen out of Franklin County.
Lacaze was charged with Evading Detention with a Vehicle, Evading Arrest on Foot, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Marijuana and Driving with a Suspended License. A Theft of Motor Vehicle charge is pending.
