Candidates file campaign expenditure reports

Texas law stipulates opposed candidates in local elections must file a report of election contributions and expenditures 30 days before Election Day.

With the upcoming city council election day set for May 7, Mount Pleasant City Secretary Darlene Denman was to receive these reports by 5 p.m. Thursday, April 7.

The candidates on the ballot are as follows (incumbents in bold.)

Nine of the ten candidates met the deadline; Place 4 candidate Kellye Cooper did not. As of 4:30 p.m. Friday Denman said efforts to contact Cooper had been unsuccessful.

Two of the candidates, Jack Anderson and David Huffman did not report any expenditures; candidates are not required to report any expenditures if they have spent less than $500, although two (Hawkins and Corbell) did.

None of the candidates reported receiving contributions from outside sources; all expenses were out-of-pocket. All the candidates except Anderson and Heavner reported they are officially their own treasurers.
