The Bankhead Hwy Centennial Celebration Vintage Car Tour is sponsored by the Antique American Independent Automobile Association (AAIAA). It is for all brands of American manufactured 1920s - 1960s cars and trucks which are historically correct.
This celebration began in Texarkana on Thursday morning and end in Odessa on Monday, April 25, with overnights in Greenville, Ft Worth, Abilene and Odessa. It passed through downtown Mount Pleasant at mid-day Thursday. It will have brief stops in nearly every small town and large city for refreshments, gas, restrooms, roadway artifacts etc.
Most towns will be decked out with BH signs, American flags, flag waving citizens and H.S. bands playing patriotic music. This tour is to assist towns in celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Bankhead Highyway's transformation from 95% dirt roads to 100% asphalt and concrete.
