Titus County Republican voters Tuesday decided the race for sheriff but split in the commissioner races, leading to a pair of runoffs.
According to results from the office of County Judge Brian Lee, two-term Sheriff Tim Ingram - running for the first time as a Republican - easily defeated challenger Glenn Willis, 3374 to 659. There is no Democrat on the fall ballot to oppose Ingram for a third term.
In the Precinct 1 Commissioner race, incumbent Al Riddle had a substantial lead with 44 percent of the vote, but fell short of the requited majority of 50 percent plus one vote and can't avoid a run-off with Mack Love who had 34 percent. Jeff Parchman was knocked out of contention with 22 percent of the vote. The number of votes are:
Riddle 511
Love 389
Parchman 249
In the race for the open seat created by the retirement of Phillip Hinton, Dane Applewhite led with 39 percent followed by Gary Murray with 32 percent. Bobby Parr was eliminated with 29 percent.
The number of votes are:
Applewhite 310
Murray 252
Parr 232
The run-off will be held May 24. In both cases, there is no Democrat in the fall election.
