Late night crash shuts down Hwy 271 for three hours

A late night crash on Hwy 271 (Bill Ratliff Fwy) just past FM 4000 (Marvin Priefert) resulted in Hwy 271 being shut down for three hours Thursday night.

Two 18-wheeler tractor trailers were traveling southbound when one rear ended the other around 9 p.m. Thursday night. David Rolland Carlson of Mount Pleasant told officers he was not paying attention while driving and rear ended the other tractor trailer driven by Gregory Graves of Montana.

When the vehicles collided a fuel tank was ruptured spilling roughly 300 gallons of fuel onto the roadway. Both vehicles suffered severe damage and had to be towed.

Neither driver was injured as a result of the crash. Carlson was cited for failing to control speed-sticking another vehicle. The freeway was reopened around midnight.
