Athlete of the Week

Cassidy Russell, a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School, has been selected as Dale Hansen’s Scholar Athlete of the Week.

WFAA Channel 8 and Dale Hansen showcase North Texas high school seniors who have excelled in academics and athletics, as well as contribute to making their community a better place to live. Dale has been recognizing area athletes for over 20 years.

Each student selected participates in a television taping that airs weekly on Channel 8. Cassidy is a 3 year member of the varsity softball team, where she plays 3rd base. She was awarded Academic Player of the Year as a junior, Academic All District both sophomore and junior years, and All District Infield Honorable Mention as a junior.

In addition to softball, she is a 4 year member of the Tiger Dolls, where she has been a leader as Sergeant and Junior Lieutenant. She currently is honored to serve as 1st Lieutenant. Cassidy was selected as MPHS All School Girl, Rotary Student of the Month, MPHS DAR Good Citizen, Outstanding Sophomore Tiger Doll, and Freshman Football Sweetheart.

She is a member of NHS, NTHS, Student Council, FFA, and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at NTCC. She has participated in the Salvation Army Bell Ringer program for 5 years and has helped with the Food 4 Kids Backpack program in addition to other community activities. She is the daughter of Larry and Karen Russell.

Cassidy’s segment with Dale airs on Sunday, February 7 at 10:30 p.m. on Channel 8 on Dale Hansen’s Sports Special.
