Former NFL player speaks to Brice students

Chaun Thompson, a 1998 Mount Pleasant High School graduate, visited the E.C. Brice Elementary School chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) recently to talk about the character traits that helped him achieve his goal of playing in the National Football League.

Thompson talked about being a student at E.C. Brice from 1985 to 1988 and how he was not the best student. He said he realized as he got older that if he wanted to achieve his goals he would have to buckle down and study as well as work hard at athletics. He said that being part of a team and working together are things that helped him succeed.

Thompson talked to the students about being responsible and helping others. He talked about the boys he works with and how many of them are not as fortunate as the Brice students are. He encouraged the students to look around themselves and help those who may be in need.

Thompson played football and basketball and ran track for the MPHS Tigers from 1995 to 1998. He earned a football scholarship to West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas and played for the Buffaloes. In 2003 he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns. He played for the Browns for fiveyears then was traded to the Houston Texans. After two years in Houston, he retired from professional football in 2009 after being injured.

Thompson and his family live in Dallas where he owns and manages two boys’ homes called Thompson’s Residential Treatment Facility for Emotional Disorders.
