Another member quits Mount Pleasant City Council

The Mount Pleasant City Council will have  special called meeting at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall located at 501 North Madison in the City of Mount Pleasant.
The agenda includes accepting the resignation of Place 5 City Council member Brian Heavner, and calling an election to fill the position.

The agenda reads as follows:

Call to Order
1. Second Public Hearing on 2019 Tax Year Proposed Property Tax Rate.
2. Public Hearing on Proposed 2019-2020 Budget.
3. Consider Accepting Resignation of Council Member Brian Heavner.
4. Consider Special Election to fill the unexpired term of Council Member Place 5.
5. Consider Approval of Change Order 13 from MHS Planning & Design, LLC for Work on the New Sports Complex.
6. Consider Pay Request from KSA for Arizona Street Sewer Line Improvements.
7. Consider Approval of Ordinance No. 2019-7 Providing that the Right-of-Way that Consists of a Tract of I.and Being a Part of West Arizona Street in the City of Mount Pleasant, Texas; Abutting South Madison Avenue in the City, Be Closed and Abandoned.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
This Council Will Now Adjourn into Executive Session.

The city council currently has one vacancy, as Michael McGahee resigned in May after a 3-2 vote to terminate City Manager Mike Ahrens. Both McGahee and Heaver were the council members who voted against the termination. The special election to fill McGahee's seat has already been called for Nov. 5.

Both Heavner and McGahee were first elected in 2016.
