Mount Pleasant – Crash

Late Wednesday night at 9:43 PM a crash occurred in the 2100 block of North Edwards Ave. The preliminary crash investigation has shown that a 2005 Silver Chevrolet Corvette was traveling westbound on North Edwards Ave. The vehicle was being driven by 17-year-old Shamour Hines of Mount Pleasant. In the Corvette was passenger 16-year-old Suzanna Grigsby of Mount Pleasant.

Exiting out of the Mount Pleasant High School parking lot was a 2008 Yellow Jeep Wrangler. The Jeep was driven by 18-year-old Ashley Blalock of Mount Pleasant. The jeep pulled onto North Edwards and was struck by the Corvette.

The impact from the Corvette caused the Jeep to flip onto its side.

According to Superintendent Judd Marshall, all the persons involved are students at Mount Pleasant High School.

Suzanna Grigsby was flown to a Tyler Hospital and is in critical condition. A news media outlet has reported that Grigsby is deceased. This is not accurate. As of 9 AM Thursday her condition is critical and family members are with her.

The other two students involved were taken to Titus County Regional Hospital with minor injuries.

Numerous witnesses have given statements to officers and a Texas Department of Public Safety Crash Reconstruction Team has been requested to assist with the investigation.

This is an ongoing investigation, said Chief Wayne Isbell. It will take time to uncover all the factors involved to determine why and how this crash occurred.

We ask for your thoughts and prays for Suzanna Grigsby and her family and for the students involved in this crash.
