CRASH UPDATE - FAMILY PRESS RELEASE

The Mount Pleasant Police Department was requested to provide an update on 16-year-old Suzanna Grigsby’s condition. Suzanna was a vehicle passenger involved in a crash late Wednesday night that occurred in front of Mount Pleasant High School.

The following is a message from Cody Matkin, Suzanna’s stepfather.

“Friends, family, community, we are incredibly blessed by the outreach and concern over our sweet Suzanna. We wanted to let everyone know exactly where we are at in the process because there is a lot of misinformation floating around.

"When we first arrived in Tyler the neuro doctor informed us that Suzanna had sustained a massive brain injury which would undoubtedly lead to herniating through the base of the skull, and it was just a matter of time. After this morning’s Cat Scan, doctors no longer believe that this will occur. Swelling and inflammation is continuing to progress, but there are no new bleeds. There is also indication that her brain is trying to move back toward its intended placement.

"She is currently undergoing an EEG to help us determine what, if anything is going on above the brain stem.

"At this point, the doctors have not offered additional hope that her condition will improve, but they are clearly surprised that it has not worsened as expected.

"Rachel, Lance, Jen, and I are asking for continued prayers that God will give us clarity on where our baby girl’s spirit is. Her body is strong and fighting, and if her spirit is still with us, we will all need strength to fight with her, but if she is already dancing with Jesus, we want to rejoice and allow her body to pass.

"Please continue to pray without ceasing. We can all feel the power of being lifted up by each of you.”
