Superior Horseman Gerardo "Jerry" Diaz comes from the exciting world of Mexican horsemanship and rodeo. A true charro, Diaz makes his living following the grand tradition of his heritage back in Mexico. He performs his horsemanship skills and rope artistry at rodeos around the country and produces his own Mexican Rodeo Extravaganza. Spurred by the pageantry and excitement of his production, he has been invited to bring his show to Denver's famous National Western Stock Show and many other prestigious events around the country.
Jerry Diaz embodies all of the qualifications of the charro's strict code of honor that includes chivalry, high ethics, expert horsemanship, and dedication to family and charro traditions. He has earned the Federation of Charros' Golden Spur Award for his outstanding contributions and commitment to the charro tradition. Famed for his expertise with the maguey rope, Jerry is a renowned crowd pleaser. Unaided by swivels or gimmicks, he spins the rope with ease while on foot, riding, or standing atop his horse.
Diaz started his charro career in the early 1980s and has been a success ever since by bringing his talents and his show to western events and rodeos. Producing and directing Mexican Rodeo Extravaganzas and Equestrian Events for special entertainment. In addition to appearing in Denver, Diaz has also exhibited his amazing performances at the San Antonio Stock Show, the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, the Houston Stock Show and Rodeo, the American Royal in Kansas City, Missouri, and many more.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Diaz traces his charro roots back four generations. His father, José ''Pepe'' Diaz, is a charro and master horseman from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. In the past, José Diaz trained horses for Mexican President Lazaro Cardenas’ family and was featured in the Barnum & Bailey Circus. Showmanship runs in the Diaz family, and Jerry Diaz continues this tradition with great success. He has been recognized as a super star in this country and has appeared on PBS's National Education Services, ABC's Good Morning America, in addition to many appearances on Telemundo and Univision.
Jerry has been written up in the AQHA Journal, as well as in Time and Newsweek magazines. He was inducted into the Texas Trail of Fame, Cowboys of Color in Fort Worth, and the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame. He and his family now reside on the 50-acre Diaz Ranch in New Braunfels, Texas where they raise and meticulously train all of their own show horses, besides often hosting colorful and well-attended local performances on their property. Jerry’s wife Staci also an accomplished horsewoman, grew up training and raising horses for her performances. She is known for her roman riding skills. Their son Nicolas is a big part of the show, performing right alongside both his parents in many of the productions that they do together as a family.
In addition to this, Jerry is a spokesperson for the HW Brand Heavy Duty Brown Lienzo Arena systems which he helped to design and implement at his ranch.
