Northeast Texas Community College hosted Stephani Calderon as a speaker at the SMART Girls conference Thursday.

Area girls in middle school and junior high (grades 6-8) were invited to attend this exciting event that will allow them to learn more about careers in science, math and related technology (SMART).

Calderon was the second student in Northeast Texas Community College history to win the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship. This scholarship covers up to $30,000 annually at the university of the student’s choice for a period ranging up to three years. Calderon was one of 73 international finalists to win the award in 2013.
