The City of Mount Pleasant Approves Assistance Packages for Two Growing Industries

On November 17th,  during a regular meeting, the Mount Pleasant City Council learned of  two major expansions at local industries and approved assistance packages for those expansions and commitments for new full-time job creation.
Priefert Manufacturing currently has one expansion underway but was considering the location of a new tube mill to support their growing steel business. The company has now made plans to place the tube mill here in Mount Pleasant and will construct a new 42,500 sq. ft. building to house it.

The additional production is expected to create 35 new jobs over the next two years. The company’s investment in the project is expected to be over $5,000,000. The City and Economic Development Corporation supported this decision with a partial Tax Abatement on the new building and equipment along with a $300,000 loan which is forgiven with verification of new job creation.

Road Clipper Enterprises - doing business as Diamond C Trailers - plans to expand their existing operations with construction of a new 30,000 sq. ft. addition to an existing building giving them room to add a production line.

The company indicated that they would invest approximately $750,000 on the expansion and create an additional 50 new full time jobs over the next 24 months. The Council approved a partial tax abatement on the new facility and equipment for a three year period.  MPEDC provided a $30,000 loan for the project which can be forgiven with verification of the projected job creation.

The two projects will mean almost six million dollars of new investment in the community and 85 new manufacturing jobs- all good news for Mount Pleasant Texas.  These two projects bring the year’s total of new corporate expansions to five.

Those include Sweet Shop, Pilgrim’s Pride, Newly Weds Foods, Priefert Manufacturing and Diamond C Trailers.
These combined investments total over $17 million dollars and mean 230 new full-time production jobs in the city.  Charlie Smith, Executive Director of MPEDC indicated this was the best year we have had since the recession and it signals that industry in our area is back and growing.
