Carry-out beer and wine sales defeated

Barring unforeseen circumstances, Mount Pleasant won't be seeing this for a while.
City of Mount Pleasant voters decided two local option referendums for beer and wine sales Tuesday.

Proposition 1 to legalize sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption was narrowly defeated, with For – 763 but Against – 772. The Titus County Elections Department said there were ten provisional ballots that still needed to be reviewed. A provisional ballot is one that is cast but challenged because of some irregularity, such as a problem with the identification or address.

The results will be announced after those ballots are checked; if all ten are accepted and voted "For" the proposition, it would pass by one vote.

Proposition 2 allowing the legal sale of mixed beverages in restaurants without a club permit passed with For – 801 and Against – 698.
