Reynolds, who worked for the city since 1985, says she was forced to resign by City Manager Mike Ahrens.
Reynolds said she got the word Monday afternoon.
“I wasn’t planning to retire,” said Reynolds. “He sat down and said we got to talk, today is your last day, I can either fire you or you can retire If you retire, you will get all your accrued vacation and half your sick leave.
I said I guess, “I guess will retire then.”
Reynolds said she asked Ahrens what was wrong. “He said it wasn’t me, there were other issues.”
Reynolds, 58, who has been city secretary since 1987, said she had planned to work at least until she was 62, because the city’s health insurance would carry over until she was 65.
She said she enjoyed her time working for the City of Mount Pleasant.
“I’ve worked with a lot of wonderful people, and I’ve enjoyed it very much,” she said.
When asked to comment Wednesday morning, Ahrens said “She retired”. Anything else is confidential because of personnel issues, he noted.
